CONF-SEML 2023

The 2023 International Conference on Software Engineering and Machine Learning (CONF-SEML 2023) was a hybrid conference which includes several workshops (offline and online) around the world. Dr. Manca who is the Chairman of the Board of Directors of SCImPULSE Foundation, Dr. Christopher Windmill from University of Derby, Dr. Marwan Omar from Illinois Institute of Technology, and Prof. Anil Fernando from University of Strathclyde have chaired these workshops on related topics of utilization of machine learning, digital healthcare intervention, computational model, etc. CONF-SEML 2023 provided the participants with good opportunities to exchange ideas and build networks, and it will lead to further collaborations between both universities and other societies.

SCImPULSE Foundation (NL) and University of Surrey (UK)

Workshop Chair: Dr. Marco Manca, Co-Founder & President of SCImPULSE Foundation

On March the 11th 2023 the workshop "BioDynaMo: building the future today" was held in Bologna (Italy) as a satellite of the Italian Society of Telemedicine's bi-annual National meeting and first International Bologna Consensus Assembly on Telemedicine. The workshop focused on current best practices in computational modeling of human diseases in research, with the goal to evaluate the work to be done to effectively and safely translate the tools and approaches into clinical practice. The lecturers invited by the BioDynaMo collaboration offered a critical analysis of the results and known pitfalls of applying computational models in life sciences, and described the best practices to moderate uncertainty and evaluate the dependability of models. The 120 participants, mostly University undergraduate and graduate students from Bologna and Parma, were very active in participation and discussion during the hands on demonstrations, and the lectures attracted several tens of rotating listeners from among the 1000 participants (medical doctors, lawyers, biomedical engineers) of the host event, who continued the conversation about potential augmentation of RCTs, inclusion of models in new drugs/indications authorization requests, and even as tools for continuous hypothesis testing in drug safety monitoring activities later towards the end of the day.

University of Derby, UK

Workshop Chair: Dr. Christopher Windmill Senior Lecturer in University of Derby

SEML 2023 Workshop - Software development practices for digitally augmented traditional business workflows with Dr Christopher Windmill and Dr Patrick Merritt. This workshop looks at what traditional business workflows and processes are and how modern approaches such as digital twins and digital asset management systems are affecting these processes. The workshop looks at how process management systems can hide and obscure data and the processes through which we can approach the capture of this data. The workshop then provides a discussion on gamification models and techniques that apply to educational paradigms, and why they aren't necessarily suitable for these traditional business workflows. In the second part of the workshop we provide an introduction to bespoke gamified user interfaces using the Unity games engine and demonstrate a simple mechanism for displaying and gamifying data degradation.

Illinois Institute of Technology, USA

Workshop Chair: Dr. Marwan Omar, Associate Professor in Illinois Institute of Technology

A workshop on recovering data in a digital forensics examination will cover various techniques and tools used in data recovery. The workshop will cover the different types of data storage devices, including hard disks, solid-state drives, and mobile devices. The techniques for recovering data from these devices will be discussed in detail, including imaging, cloning, and data carving. The workshop will also cover the different file systems used in digital storage devices and how to recover data from each of them. The tools and software used for data recovery, including open-source and commercial solutions, will also be discussed. Participants will learn about the importance of preserving the integrity of the data during the recovery process, including maintaining a chain of custody and adhering to best practices for data handling. The workshop will also cover the legal and ethical considerations when handling recovered data, including privacy and confidentiality issues. Overall, the workshop on recovering data in a digital forensics examination will equip participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively recover data and reconstruct events during a digital forensics investigation.

University of Strathclyde, UK

Workshop Chair: Prof. Anil Fernando, Professor in University of Strathclyde

The objective of this tutorial is to produce an overview on the historical development and current status of the AI application in stock price prediction while providing an understanding on the challenges and possible future direction in the field. We expect to present our study providing a comprehensive overview on the historical development of AI algorithms in stock price prediction. In addition, through this tutorial it is expected to produce an in-depth overview on the kinds of algorithms that are currently utilized by researchers to generate next day price and price direction prediction based on numeric and textual data.

Online Session

The online session of the 2023 International Conference on Software Engineering and Machine Learning (CONF-SEML 2023) was held on April 19, 2023. Prof. Marwan Omar from Illinois Institute of Technology, Prof. Roman Bauer from University of Surrey, Prof. Michael Harre from The University of Sydney, Prof. Richa Gupta from Jamia Hamdard, Prof. Festus Adedoyin from Bournemouth University, Prof. Anil Fernando from University of Strathclyde, Prof. Christopher Windmill from University of Derby have given keynote speeches on related topics of utilization of machine learning, digital healthcare intervention, computational model, etc. Also, we invited authors of qualified papers to deliver oral presentations at the Online Session. Two authors have presented their studies of Blockchain-based Service Network and Virtual Technology. Questions from the audience were collected and answered by the presenters.
